Janos Starker J.S. Bach Suites For Unaccompanied Cello Complete by Speakers Corner Mastering engineer: Willem Makkee SOUND 5/5 PACKAGING 5/5 VALUE 5/5
The original Mercury box set can easily set you back over $500 for a M- pressing (even the Golden Imports reissue has been known to break this mark) so for Speakers Corner to offer this three record set for under $100 is an incredible bargain. Pressed at the Pallas plant in Germany, which is known to make some of the flattest and cleanest records in this day and age, matched with the superb mastering of veteran engineer Willem Makkee this is an easy recommendation. While Casals' set is the early benchmark for these suites, Starker's performance is an essential interpretation, played with a great deal of heart and passion aptly portrayed in the focused, first-row sound of this reissue. |
